Literary Walking Performance - The Brothers Grimm

The Brothers Grimm:

“The breath of the past is in the air.” With their mysterious traveling library, they offer a glimpse into their world-famous fairy tales and open a magical gateway to a time when wishes still came true, shadows came to life by candlelight, and golden words blew away the dust from yellowed parchments.

Who are we? We are Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm—on a quest to find the Frog Prince, because he wants to reveal the 211th fairy tale to us.

Hardly anyone knows that we didn’t invent the 210 stories, but rather collected and wrote down all these fairy tales.

When Cinderella loses her slipper on the castle steps and the prince searches for the mysterious princess, the wicked stepsisters do everything they can to fit into the slipper: one cuts off her toes and the other her heel. But nothing helped, for the doves cried out: “Rucke di guck, rucke di guck! There’s blood in the shoe: The shoe is too small; the right bride is still at home.” As we know, it was Cinderella who fit the shoe, and she married the prince.

“Rucke di guck, rucke di guck! No blood in the shoe. The shoe isn’t too small; the right bride—he’s taking her home!”

Many people are also unaware of the fairy tale’s full title: “The Wishing Table, the Golden Donkey, and the Club from the Sack.”
Because of a deceitful goat, a tailor drives his sons away. As a reward for their apprenticeship, they receive three magical items: the “Little Table, Set Thyself,” the golden donkey (“Bricklebrit”), and the “Club from the Sack.” A greedy innkeeper steals the table and the donkey, but the youngest brother beats the loot out of the donkey with the magic club and calls it back with the words “Club into the Sack.” They return home rich, unmask the goat, and reconcile with their father.

As we journey through these fantastic fairy tales with our most important guests of all—the children—their cleverness is rewarded with a Diploma Fabula (Fairy Tale Diploma).
